Introducing Sophie, the newest member to the Embody Fitness team, a specialist in sports therapy. As explained in last week’s blog post, an important feature in all our clients training programmes.
Sophie developed a passion for sport during her youth as she trained as an elite gymnast. Although conditioning was often a chore, she realised at an early age that without this, she would be unable to perform to a high standard.
Sophie decided that her career pathway would focus on her love of sport. She attended Birmingham University, completing a Sport and Exercise Science degree. Having also enjoyed Biology at A Level, she developed her knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology and the effects injuries had not only on athletes but also on the general population. Sophie decided that this was definitely the route she wanted to pursue and she focused her attention on MSK injuries and rehabilitation during her extended studies for her MSC degree.
Whilst completing her Master’s degree in Sport Rehabilitation, she gained a lot of experience in a wide variety of establishments with differing clientele. Since then, Sophie has worked in Private practice on the prestigious Harley Street, as well as working with a rugby team, and athletes in varying sports from gymnasts to footballers.
Sophie further developed her knowledge of Sports injuries and how to treat them effectively whilst working in a Sports Injuries Clinic in a Ski resort in Austria. This was not only great fun in a fantastic location, but it gave her in depth understanding of many complex ski injuries and their treatments. As a keen skier, it was an ideal opportunity to improve her knowledge and technique both on and off the Ski slopes!
Sophie continues to develop her knowledge and passion for the job and has recently worked with the French National Rugby squad during the World Cup. Sadly, this ended sooner than she had hoped for when they made an earlier than expected exit after the quarter finals!
