“I was working an office job so had a very sedentary lifestyle. Eventually my weight snowballed; I wasn’t being very active at all. It got to a point where I didn’t feel like myself anymore, I was carrying all this extra weight and everything was much harder than I remember it – I was like, “is this really me?” At that point I knew I had to do something about it. And then I found Embody. The journey at Embody felt like it was customised to me. I was paired with Joshua, my personal trainer, and from the get-go it was really easy to work with him, I felt completely at ease. He would push me and continue to motivate me at the same time which was great. The programme itself wasn’t easy, but the team made it as simple as possible. With the training, all I had to do was show up – everyone else did the rest for me. In terms of the nutrition – the whole programme was shaped around my lifestyle instead of being a short term fix – for example, they could have just given me recipes to cook but instead it was more based around portion control, so over the course of the programme it taught me how to be better with the food that I eat, and be more disciplined – and that worked really well.

In the first 3 months I lost around 20 kilos, so a lot! It’s hard to believe I was carrying all that extra weight. It’s shocking to see how much can change in such a short period of time. The main thing I say to others is that it is entirely possible to get the results that you want, there is only one thing you need to do which is show up and be consistent with the diet – the rest just follows. It’s worth investing a short period of your time in order to make that change happen.”

“I had also tried numerous diets in the past, “the 5:2 fast, the smoothies” – but none of these had lasting changes. I joined Embody because I wanted to lose weight for my wedding. After years being unhappy with how I looked in pictures, I decided that my wedding would be finally a time where I decided to make a difference. I chose Embody fitness, because the staff were knowledgable and having had lots of clients having gone through a similar process they seemed like the experts in the field. The initial consultation was thorough asking me about every little aspect of my life, assessing me top to toe to make a tailor-made personalised programme. Charlie is an excellent PT. He worked really hard to help me achieve my goals. He pushed me during each session to my maximum limits and was constantly trying to push me to reach new goals. It’s amazing how much I progressed from the beginning in terms of what I can do with the weights. We also became great friends, and he helped open my mind to lots of new ideas. He was also always happy to be contacted so if I was having an off day, he would help me decide what to do and keep giving me little tips. He really cared.

The thing I liked most about Embody is that everyone at the gym helped me with my goal. Whenever I was in the gym, even PTs who I didn’t work with were checking in on how I was doing. It felt like a real family. As well as losing more weight than I anticipated, one of the big things I learnt from the programme is to to be open minded. I always though that those people that go to the gym regularly and eat healthy is something I could never be. In my head that just wasn’t me or my personality. However the programme showed me that as an individual you can be whoever you want to be and all you have to do is focus your mind on it. I shouldn’t shut myself off because ‘its not me’ . Also my mood was so much better, I felt a lot more happier and positive. I felt empowered to achieve my best in all aspects of my life. I am really proud of my before and after photos. I was shocked to see how I looked before and absolutely stunned with the results. I can’t believe that I can now wear whatever I want, I don’t have to hide particular parts of me and I’m happy for people to take photos of me. The number of compliments I got from friends, family, work colleagues has been overwhelming. A real confidence boost. To anyone thinking about joining the Embody programme I would say its not easy, however the team will help you along every step of the way, and it will be 100% worth it. You will be blown away with the results.

“Everybody has a different motivation for wanting to get in shape. Mine came in the form of 4 children kindly pointing out that I was “getting quite large like Granddad”. Even looking in the mirror it’s not something that you necessarily want to acknowledge or accept however.

 

I had tried various gyms and personal training plans previously to no avail. Too much time had been spent in the office and my daily 5 hour commute was beginning to take its toll, all compounded by having had significant back problems for the last 4 years due to a climbing fall. I realised I needed to do something and invest some time into looking after my health.

From the first time you step into the Embody gym you realise that there is something different and special about it. From my initial consultations with both Chris and Greg it was clear that they were listening to what I wanted to achieve and develop a training and nutrition plan that would help me achieve those goals, rather than just following a standard formula.

Having got over the initial shock of the first weigh in (107kg) and body fat check (36%) I stepped into the gym to meet my personal trainer Tom. From the first session it was clear that he was as motivated as I was to get good results. We settled on pattern of 3 training sessions a week, the training programme was adapted and amended to keep my body guessing and develop muscle growth whilst burning as much fat as possible. Tom left me broken but with a smile on my face after each session… despite the weighted sled pushing!

I was shocked how quickly my body began to change, sticking closely to the food plan and training regime, my body fat started to drop and I was begging to put on lean muscle. I was surprised how many people noticed the changes before I did, The food plan was straight forward to stick to and became habit rather than a chore and I was surprised how much energy I had even having cut out carbs for the first few weeks.

Regular checks with Greg helped monitor progress and set realistic new targets and goals. The progress was staggering as I surpassed my own expectations at each session. By the end of the first 12 weeks my body fat had dropped by 22% down to 14%, my weight was down to 85Kg. I’d also lost 5 inches off my waist, a problem no tailor can solve and has left me with the requirement for a new wardrobe as none of my clothes now fit me!

This has left me motivated to carry on working with the team at Embody to see how far I can push myself and achieve even greater levels of fitness. Even going away on holiday Tom gave me a body weight programme to use to maintain my momentum. The result being as we start the next phase of training my weight is down to 81.6 KG and body fat down to 12%.

Training at Embody Fitness has not only transformed my body but changed my life. It provides so much more than bespoke, best in class, premier league personal training. After being overweight for over 20 years I did not believe it would be possible to change. I had limited self-confidence and was full of insecurities which had a negative impact physically, socially and professionally. I made the decision to invest in myself and a commitment to change.

From my initial conversation to final training session the support I received at Embody has been immense. The 360-degree approach works. Even before I stepped on the gym floor I had a musculoskeletal assessment, initial measurements, photographs, nutrition plan and supplements to ensure optimum results.

The team were able to design a programme that worked around restrictions from my hip replacement. The nutrition plan was very straightforward to follow. I liked the way there was no weighing and did not take much preparation time, I could also find something on plan at most restaurants too. Joshua my trainer is truly amazing. He knew exactly how to push me to my limit at each session and I loved hearing my % improvements! The structured, statistical approach works, every rep is recorded. I had never trained with weights previously and now I cannot imagine not lifting – the endorphins! My highlight was having the strength to do chin-ups.

The frequency of check-ins with Greg ensured I stayed on track, reduced the temptation to stray, allowed tweaks to be made to the nutrition plan and most importantly the numbers showed the progress I was making. I was shocked by the numbers and % change at each re-test. Others noticed the changes before I did and I had to learn how to accept compliments rather than bat them away. Training has now become an integral part of my day rather than reluctantly squeezing in a session as a chore. Embody has enabled me to be a much stronger person than I ever believed possible, not only physically but in all aspects of my life.

“When I was active it was easy for me to drink and eat what I wanted, and I would never get any heavier than about 15 stone [95kg]. When you’re 6ft 4in [1.93m] your height can hide a multitude of sins, but at 
the end of last year I was struggling to fit into anything I could buy on the peg. I had a 38in waist: I remember thinking, ‘That’s quite big’.”

“My training with Chris was intensive, tough, but good fun. I mentioned to him that parts of my body that I didn’t know existed were hurting, and I thought I was physically unable to do the things he wanted me to do, he said it’d get easier and I didn’t believe him.
But he was right. The real education for me came along with my new diet. I didn’t know the difference between protein and carbohydrate; I’d never taken much notice of what exactly it was that I was eating – or how much of it I consumed. I’d be in the studio at 5am, then I’d have a breakfast at 6.30am and maybe another one at 8.30am, and it was sausage or bacon sandwiches, tonnes of coffee… looking back it’s kind of shocking. People persuade themselves that they ‘need’ a big breakfast to start the day, but it’s just what they’ve always had. Now I have two eggs with porridge and that’s it.”

“After being on holiday in February I had a sudden realisation that my clothes were too tight, I felt very unfit and lethargic. I walk a lot with work so I never went to the gym, I thought walking was enough exercise – clearly for me it wasn’t!! Like many people I struggled to maintain my fitness during lockdown. I tried home workouts etc but could not achieve the same results as using an actual gym and fitness classes. I knew once lockdown was over I needed something radical to get back into shape and to feel fit and healthy again. I knew I wanted to try out a personal trainer having never tried one before. I did a lot of research and wanted to go for a highly reputable, best-in-class PT facility, hence why I chose Embody.

The initial consultation was great. We went through my current activity levels, fitness goals and took measurements so I had a clear understanding of where I was at, and where I needed to get to to reach my targets. The nutritional aspect was really important given that is half of the journey in itself. I had clear daily calorie and macronutrient targets which kept me on track. The therapy assessment was fine, fortunately I didn’t have any muscular or skeletal imbalances/issues.

My nutritionist Danny was great, friendly, very professional and clearly knows his stuff. I have been training for the last 15 years of my life and the core principles of fitness and nutrition which Danny took me through were in line with what I have learnt over the years, with additional tips. The training program was equally as good, I’ve learned new methods of training, new exercises and have developed the weaker parts of my body to build more well-rounded strength. My PT Joshua was fantastic, very motivating, always had high energy, and consistently offered guidance on ways I could improve my form. He helped me push limits, particularly on days when I would enter the gym feeling tired – I always left feeling refreshed and energised.

To anyone considering a programme at Embody, I would 100% recommend going for it. Even though I have been training for the last fifteen years, I was able to learn a lot in the last 10 weeks, push myself past my limits, and get back to where I wanted to be health and fitness wise. It was exactly what I needed after months of being in lockdown. It has been a breath of fresh air both mentally and physically.”

This continuous support has really helped my confidence in the gym, and has helped me to understand that lifting heavy weights doesn’t mean a bulky frame.

“12 of your finest, Matt”. These would be the words that would both haunt me and get me through each session. But it also (cheesily) applies so much to the whole Embody team. Everyone is ridiculously knowledgeable about fitness and food, and it really shows in the results these guys are achieving. The fact that the trainers are doing similar diets and workout types makes you confident that you can achieve the outcome you want.

I could not have asked for a better trainer. In fact to call him a trainer doesn’t really do him justice, more of a life coach. I don’t think I found a topic that he didn’t know something about, but unfortunately for him that resulted in me inundating him with emails for help (which he always obliged to answer).

I followed whatever I was told to do to the letter (I don’t think he fully realized the power he had!) and the speed of the results was enough to make me grateful for his assistance. No dreams were sold – instead it was clearly explained what I could hope to achieve and I was made to feel at home knowing I was now in the right hands.

 

It was explained to me that my training was to be completed with a dedicated trainer and my nutrition to be handled by the nutrition team. I have to say that the biggest factor to achieving what I have was largely down to my diet, and the incredible level of expertise and attention I had not received in the past. Everything was simplified and explained down to the last meal. I wasn’t just being told what I could eat, I was being educated as to why, what and when I am eating it.

Now I am able to just look at the macro breakdowns of my meals and know everything I need to about the nutritional values. The meal plans were amazing, as I could pick from so many different things and I suppose it didn’t really feel like I was dieting at all. “I was tired of seeing other guys with the results that i wanted, knowing that they weren’t working any harder than i was in the gym. So finally something gave after training on my own for 15 years and i visited the experts at Embody. 10 weeks later i’m clearly over the moon – i’m actually spending less time in the gym but i am stronger than ever and my body fat is sub 10% from 23%. I had been training on a more or less regular basis for the last couple of months and made an effort to eat more healthily in order to lose weight and get into shape, but was not seeing any real results. I therefore wanted to sign up with Embody to see whether their programme could kick-start my transformation and give me the motivation I needed.

 

My trainer and nutritionist both asked me at the beginning of the programme how committed I was. At the time, my honest answer was 7 out of 10. I was willing to work hard and make certain sacrifices, but was not willing to give up all my bad habits, such as the occasional drink here or there. The team took on board my comments and did not try to impose on me a programme that was more restrictive than I was willing to commit to, but instead gave me helpful and practical advice how best to minimise the negative impact of any bad choices I was going to make. Ultimately, however, I ended up following the programme more strictly than I had originally intended, and was blown away by the results I was seeing after the first week already. The results spoke for themselves and gave me the motivation to give 100%.

It was great to have a whole team working with me. Whilst I was able to discuss any nutritional issues with my trainer, it was amazing to have an extra resource in the form of a nutritionist (Danny) who would ensure my diet was adjusted throughout the programme to reflect the progress I had made and the targets we had set. Regular assessments with my nutritionist were extremely motivating and helped me keep on track. Working with Embody’s sports therapist was an added bonus. Whilst it wasn’t my initial goal, I now feel less aches and pains and workout even more effectively.

“I have lost about a stone by doing cardio before joining Embody however i didn’t want to end up just being skinny so I decided to join embody and gain muscle tissue as well as learn how to lift and what to do on the gym floor. Embody seemed to be the perfect match for me, close to work and an all-round programme with nutrition sessions as well as personal training sessions.

The Director made me welcome when I attended my consultation, the programme was very appealing and it was clear they were professional. The Sports Therapist assessed me before I started my programme to make sure I didn’t do any exercises I shouldn’t be, and to make sure I performed exercises within my limitations, then my nutritionist Tom set up my individualised nutrition programme to take me through the coming weeks.

My personal trainer Vicky is professional, she looks after my form and also explains why we do what we do. She is also a great listener and knows when to push you and when to pull back. The programme has been hard but very rewarding, it makes you feel accomplished when you gave it your all and achieve amazing results. I wish I had done it earlier!

The team approach is really what sets Embody apart. It is great to have accountability not only to my trainer but to my nutritionist too. When I had any niggles I could also easily book into a sports therapy session to make sure it didn’t get in the way of me achieving my goals.

My journey with Embody has had the biggest impact on my confidence and my everyday life. I am a lot happier in my body and it shows on the outside too. I feel like I have more energy to do my daily job now and more focus at work.

In terms of long term benefits – I have learned how to lift! I am deadlifting more than my bodyweight and I have also learned new habits and how to maintain my new weight and now set up a goal to gain more muscle.

When I saw my after before and images I was speechless. I am completely amazed by what I have achieved. I keep asking myself why I didn’t do this before! My coworkers have all been asking what am I doing… as well as my children!

“Following an overindulgent Christmas and Festive Period I came into the New Year not looking or feeling in great shape. So instead of doing the customary annual dry January I decided to make a more committed investment to my health and fitness and looked into a transformation programme with Embody Fitness. I started off with a 4-week Winter Blitz programme then continued onto an 8 week programme, training 3 times per week, with my main goals and objectives of reducing my body fat percentage (to lose the gut), getting back into the routine of training and also developing a more focussed approach to my nutrition, which being honest I’ve always overlooked.

The training sessions were tailored to my individual needs with input from the Embody Sports Therapist and whilst at the start I found them tough, my personal trainer Joey was great at giving me the motivation to succeed and get through them. The strict attention to nutrition, which included a daily tracker to ensure I was sticking to my macros became second nature after a few days of getting used to it. The regular check-ins and re-tests also helped to keep me on track and motivated.

Getting to the end of the programme and seeing the results has been life changing. I succeeded in reducing my body fat from 19% to 11%, I rediscovered my passion for training and am also now a lot more conscious and aware of what I’m eating and drinking. Mission accomplished! “I’d been staying active over the summer but saw that my results were beginning to plateau. I’ve never been able to push myself that little bit harder nor stay consistent enough, that’s when I came across Embody.

I ended up choosing Embody for a number of reasons. The results on their website looked amazing, as did their testimonials. But it was their approach – which offered nutrition and supplementation, sports therapy and of course the personal training, that made me choose Embody. The all-inclusive approach meant I had no excuses if results didn’t go my way. I found the training really challenging, but in a good way. While it was clear my fitness was improving, the workouts never really got easier, which was good because I was constantly being pushed to get better and better.

I loved the team approach at Embody. Working out at a gym can often feel quite intimidating, which is why I’d often be reluctant to go. But at Embody there is a real fun atmosphere. All the trainers are making jokes which helps make you feel like you’re part of the team.

The approach of combining the nutrition and supplementation and the personal training as well sports therapy if I ever had any muscle issues meant that I had everything accounted for which lead to me having to worry about less factors.

If I had to choose 2-3 key things that stood out about my journey I would choose;
Passion – as well as pushing me to my limits, I really liked the passion the team at Embody had. Particularly from Craig, if I ever had a question, he would go into great detail, even using studies he’d recently read in his answers, which really showed how passionate he was about the fitness industry and thus made me more interested in it as well!

Real personalised programme – after doing my initial consultation, which included measuring my weight, body fat % and even seeing how flexible I was, the team created a programme just for me. Even afterwards, the programme would change depending on how I reacted to some exercise types.

Friendly – if I didn’t get on with Craig, my trainer, then my motivation for getting up early 3 times a week would have been very low. By being friendly and making jokes (even at my expense) the trainers made me want to work hard not just for myself, but for them as well!

“I feel I have a lot more energy than I did before, especially in the early morning! My posture has also improved, I used to slouch quite a lot, so it’s great that I look a little taller now.

As well as all the physical benefits, I’d say my knowledge of training and nutrition has improved massively. Because Craig and Danny took the time to not just tell me what to do, but explain why, means I have a much better chance of maintaining my fitness.

Within 3 weeks of training I had doubled my dumbbell bench press weight. Granted I started pretty light to begin with, but not the point. Previous to commencing training at Embody Fitness, I’m not sure I could’ve lifted a 2 water bottles in a bench press. But the biggest changes weren’t seen in the first few weeks. Not in terms of my strength. In the last few weeks of training, I found myself extremely determined to push myself harder and harder. By the time I completed 12 weeks, I was able to lift 65 kgs in an elevated hip bridge, 3 sets, 12 reps. That’s more than I weigh! I’m giving myself a nice big high five.

“2 years had passed since I was last in good shape, due to illness, caring for my terminally ill father and 2 very busy years at work, the weight had crept back on. I needed to sort things out so looked around the area for a 12 week intense package and decided to take up the embody challenge although due to a trip away and wedding had 10 weeks to achieve my goals.

Embody set me up with someone to look after my nutrition, somebody to look after my training and I had a pre-training assessment with their therapist. I really found the diet easy to follow and stick to, even though there were no cheat meals and no alcohol, didn’t really find myself feeling hungry. I trained with my trainer Tekin 3 days a week and once or twice on my own, Tekin’s sessions were always challenging but extremely enjoyable and he always got the most out of me in every session, even when sometimes was exhausted ( I start work at 2am), and would personally recommend him to anyone that wants to achieve their goals.

I found the gym very well equipped and never overcrowded, and all staff friendly and helpful at all times, would like to thank everyone at gym but special mention to Tekin and Dave who stood in when Tekin was off, and Greg for diet plan.
